What You Can Do About Acne
There is a lot you can do if you have acne.
Here are some simple rules:
Keep your face clean. Wash regularly with an antisceptic soap. But don’t scrub away like mad as this only stimulates the pilosebaceous units to produce more sebum. That’s the last thing you want.
Use an antibiotic lotion or cream. Massage it well into the skin so that it can attack the Propionibacterium acnes bacteria that underly the problem.
Don’t squeeze spots. Although the temptation is great, just think about what actually happens when you apply pressure to a little reservoir of pus beneath your skin. The pressure that is forcing the liquid upwards (which, if it is high enough will burst the upper layer of skin and exude the pus) is also forcing the liquid downwards, down the hair follicle and into deeper layers of the skin. This is exactly where you don’t want the bacteria to be because when they cause inflammation in the lower layers of the skin, they cause cysts and ultimately, scarring which is much more serious.
