The Misery of Acne - You CAN Beat It!
Let's get straight to the point: If you’ve got acne and it’s ruining your life, then there are a number of courses of action open to you.
Topical applications. This simply means something that you apply to the skin in the location of the problem. Some of them do a good job of cleaning your skin and others may help to sooth the redness and soreness but, generally speaking, their success rate in dealing with the underlying problem seems low. Most topical applications are manufactured and marketed by the big, often multinational, drug companies. They therefore have a huge marketing budget and the TV ads you'll see for these products are slick and persuasive. By all means experiment with them, they're unlikley to do you any harm. But be warned, they may not be quite as effective as their marketing leads you to expect.
Drugs. There are drugs available that have a good track record in treating very severe acne. And by severe, I mean patients who have been referred to hospital because their acne is so bad. The drugs are expensive though and may not be available to all of us. If you have very bad acne then you should consult your physician at the earliest opportunity. The menu on the left shows a page called 'Acne Drugs', this will give you an idea of what's available.
Lifestyle changes. Believe it or not, for most sufferers, the most effective way of dealing with acne is through lifestyle changes. Our skin responds to they way we live and, although you might feel that you’re not doing anything particularly reprehensible in your day to day activities, there’s obviously something going on that your skin doesn’t like very much.
So how to you pinpoint these areas of your daily existence that might be causing you problems? Well, fortunately acne is a condition that has undergone a massive amount of research in recent years because doctors realise the huge psychological implications that can arise from having troublesome skin.
As a result, there is now a good selection of self-help e-books and guides that will help you to find out what it is that’s causing your acne and crucially, dealing with it. Despite some claims, they don’t work overnight, it can take a little while for lifestyle changes to affect your skin condition. But properly and conscientiously applied they can make a big difference in the longer run. Take a look at the menu, top left, and have a look at some of the most popular products. A lot of people have had success with them and one of them may be just right for you too!
